Art of the Cover - The Growlers' "Gilded Pleasures" (2013)

little girls don’t last forever, enjoy them while you can ....

A very titillating, spaced-out cover adorns the fine Gilded Pleasures by Cali cult faves The Growlers - a band consisting of Brooks Nielsen, Matt Taylor, Scott Montoya, Anthony Braun Perry and Kyle Straka.

The Growlers take the phrase ''Beach Goth'' as an apt descriptor of their music. Sunburned and salty, that term perfectly describes their distinctive melding of reverb heavy surf guitar and Bakersfield-style honky tonk with '80s post-punk.

The nine track collection really shows the guys are from California, with distinct surf rock influences permeating throughout the whole album.

A collection that's extremely cohesive, lyrically and musically, and definitely makes you feel like you have been taken to Orange County to listen to some far out sounds - nine songs of greasy, citified vagrancies drizzled over a rural heart. Like some scotch-sipping apartment hoedowns Lee Hazelwood would sprawl out on a couch at!
