Art of the Cover - P.P. Arnold's "The First Cut Is The Deepest" (1967)

Pert pretty P.P. from back in '67 with the definitive version of Cat Stevens oft-covered pop classic "The First Cut Is The Deepest".

A song from her fine debut LP "The First Lady of Immediate".

Pat (aka P.P.) was actually the first person to record  "The First Cut Is The Deepest"Stevens' own recorded version of the song appeared a few months later on his sophomore album New Masters.

"The First Cut Is The Deepest" was recorded on Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham's Immediate Records label, with Loog Oldham, Mike Hurst and a certain Mick Jagger credited as producers.

Arnold had become a friend/girlfriend of Jagger since arriving in England the previous year.
