Eric Bibb - Spirit I Am (2008)

The album is a brilliant collection of gospel influenced blues, folk, and soul with guest vocals by Ruthie Foster and Bonnie Rait. Bibb is son of NY folk singer Leon Bibb and nephew of pianist-composer John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet.

His family counted Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, and Odetta among their friends. Bibb has been playing steel guitar since the age of seven, lived in Sweden for a time before signing to a British label, opened for Ray Charles on tour, and recorded with Odetta, Mavis Staples, Guy Davis, and Taj Mahal among others.

As he says himself ....

My new album « Spirit I Am » is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting projects of my career. It puts together 2 records :

* « Get Onboard » my new official album which will be released on march.
* « Field Recordings » a special « collector » album which contains seven traditional songs cut just with my guitar.

This special project including these two albums will be distributed only in Benelux and France through the Dixiefrog label. These two albums were recorded in Nashville, with some fabulous new musical friends, it also features some wonderful cameo performances by Bonnie Raitt (on slide guitar), and Ruthie Foster (singing a duet with me). Style-wise, it’s a further exploration into the place where blues meets gospel and soul.
